Gotta Go Fast |
The Pink Pig' [Leica M-A Typ 127], an extraordinary creation that showcases the art of customization and our design ethos at ultralethal®. This project involves a meticulous, ground-up rebuild of the most modern rangefinder Leica M-A Typ 127, transforming it into a one-of-a-kind FMR (Fully Mechanical Rangefinder) that not only pays homage to the legacy of Leica but also serves as a trailblazer for our future customization projects.
The 'Pink Pig' stands out as an expression of individuality and a tribute to our passion for motorsports, fashion, popular culture, firearms, and photography.

Key Features and Customization:
At the heart of the 'Pink Pig' is what we internally call the RAD (Rapid Advance Device), or the Rapid Winder II, by Tom Abrahamsson. This winding accessory attachment allows rapid shutter firing without removing the eye from the viewfinder, further enhancing the Ghost-FMR's shooting capabilities and expanding its user experience. This device is ideal for situations where images need to be captured in rapid succession.
The scope of work for this project involved a thorough process, beginning with a complete Cerakote treatment for both the body and the winder, performed by Weichel Performance Coatings, a premier NIC Factory-trained & certified Cerakote applicator based in Florida. Cerakote not only adds a stunning finish but also enhances the camera's durability, making it more resilient against the elements and wear in field deployments.

Rounding off the build:
Following the Cerakote application, the camera underwent a comprehensive series of procedures at Shueido Camera Ltd in Taipei City, Taiwan. This boutique camera workshop is renowned for its master craftsmen and painters who specialize in top-of-the-line camera modifications. Their expertise included disassembling the camera, paint stripping, a Clean-Lubricate-Adjustment (CLA) service to ensure mechanical precision, accessory painting, and the meticulous process of reassembling the camera.
A final and totally unique touch to this project is the custom-designed 1-of-1 Chrome Hearts shutter release button, crafted from solid 14k gold. Adorned with 57 round-cut D-E color VVS natural diamonds, this exquisite component was designed by its owner and crafted by their in-house jeweler, reflecting the decommissioned, "mercenary-owned" nature of the camera, a nod to the stereotype of private military operators, which have a history of outfitting themselves with lavish side arms (Video games have also perpetuated this concept), including gold-plated pistols and the like.
The Optics:
Completing the setup is a beautifully silver-painted Leica 28mm Summilux lens, which was masterfully decorated by Shueido. This focal length is particularly suited for reconnaissance and overland surveys, providing versatility and exceptional image quality. The Summilux lens is celebrated for producing sharp images with beautiful bokeh, making it ideal for a range of photographic applications.
Overall, the 'Ghost-FMR Project: Pink Pig' is a fusion of artistry, engineering, and personal expression, reflecting the owner’s vision while delivering the high performance that Leica is known for. It’s not just a camera; it’s a statement piece, a work of art in itself, promising to deliver unforgettable moments through its lens.
